The Grand opening ceremony is scheduled for Friday November 3, 2006, at 7:30 pm. RSVP: (954) 357-7478 / (954) 678-2975 / (305) 412-9618.

The exhibit explores the concept of modernity in Haitian art through works by international artist Philippe Dodard. These include paintings, sculptures and fine jewelry, most of them never seen before in the United States. Around sixty artworks will be presented.

The Honorable Josephus Eggelletion, Jr., Vice-Mayor of Broward County, and Mr. Frank Etienne XVI Roman Literary Award winner and several times Nobel Prize contender will co-chair this event.

A series of surrounding programs including a Symposium by renowned scholars will accompany the exhibit. The symposium entitled “The Idea of Modernity in African Diaspora Art”is scheduled for Friday Nov. 3, 4:00-6:00 pm and is sponsored by F.I.U., African-New World Studies and Africa Resource Center SUNY Binghamton. Speakers include: Distinguished University Pr. Houston Baker (Vanderbilt University), Pr. Nkiru Nzegwu, SUNY Binghamton, Pr. LeGrace Benson (Ithaca, New York), Pr. Carole Boyce-Davies (Florida International University), Pr. Atkin Ogundiran (Florida International University), Pr. Greg Thomas (Syracuse University, New York), Pr. Leo Winton, SUNY Binghamton, Mireille Jerome from Fondation Culture-Creation, Haiti and a host of distinguished scholars and art critics.
